Martin Kurzweil and Stanford University’s Mitchell Stevens are holding a pre-meeting workshop, “Responsible Use of Student Data in the Digital Era,” at the EDUCAUSE Annual Conference in Philadelphia on October 31 from 12:30 pm – 4:00 pm.

Digital technologies have created unprecedented opportunity to understand student learning and enhance educational attainment. They also raise new questions about the ethical collection, use, and sharing of information. Participants in this workshop will explore the promise and risks of newly available student data, consider real-world scenarios of student data use for purposes of research and educational improvement, and expand on principles of “responsible use.”

Workshop Outcomes:

  • Explore the landscape of student data ethics issues
  • Explain the implications of student data ethics issues for your organization
  • Describe a set of principles and governance framework for responsible use of student data
