The academic research enterprise—the systems, services, policies, and people that ensure the production and circulation of new knowledge—is the foundation for the innovations and insights necessary to meet global challenges and promote the well-being of individuals and societies.

We help universities, researchers, policymakers, and funders navigate the shifting technological, cultural, and political currents that shape academic research.

Artificial intelligence

Advances in machine learning and other forms of artificial intelligence are becoming central to research across disciplines. We are undertaking several large-scale projects focused on understanding the implications of human-machine partnerships on research practices and scholarly communication.

Facilitating open science

Sharing research data, code, and other outputs in ways that conform to FAIR standards (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable) is essential to the health, integrity, and reproducibility of the scholarly record and the research enterprise. We are actively helping research communities and institutions build the necessary infrastructure for data-intensive research.

Scholarly communication and communities

Knowledge creation is a collaborative process built on the foundation of a scholarly communication infrastructure and the collective insights of diverse research communities.
