Expanding AI Literacy Integration
Fall 2025 Cohort
Building on success, scaling impact
Earlier this spring, we kicked off two cohort projects on AI literacy with 45 colleges and universities. In the months since we first announced the cohorts, the urgency of AI literacy integration has only grown. Students increasingly expect their institutions to prepare them not just to use AI tools, but to understand their implications, limitations, and ethical considerations. Faculty are seeking concrete guidance on how to incorporate AI literacy into their courses meaningfully. And administrators are recognizing AI literacy as a strategic imperative for institutional competitiveness and student success.
Against this backdrop, we have decided to expand our efforts and welcome a new cohort of institutions ready to take leadership in this critical area.
Announcing the Fall 2025 AI literacy cohort
This August, Ithaka S+R will launch our third cohort focused on defining, implementing, and scaling AI literacy initiatives across higher education. This new cohort will bring together librarians, educators, and administrators from 15-20 institutions for a year-long research and design project. During the course of the project, Ithaka S+R will support each campus as they interview students and faculty to explore their experiences with AI and better understand their needs around AI literacy. The participants will next use design-informed thinking to collaboratively develop new service offerings or revisions to existing services. Ithaka S+R will share findings from the project via a published final report.
Call for participation
The cohort is forming quickly, and we are excited to announce that the following institutions have confirmed their participation:
- Baylor University
- Bowling Green University
- Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
- Salt Lake Community College
- University of Hawaii, Manoa
We are accepting additional institutions into the cohort. If you are interested in learning more about the project or participating in it, please contact Dylan Ruediger (dylan.ruediger@ithaka.org) by July 18, 2025. We look forward to partnering with the next wave of institutions ready to lead AI literacy in higher education.
